Organizational patterns for comparison and contrast essay

คือเรียงความที่แสดงการเปรียบเทียบให้เห็นความเหมือนและความแตกต่างระหว่างสองสิ่งที่มักจะอยู่ในหมวดหมู่ หรือเรื่องราวเดียวกันแต่มีความแตกต่างกันในด้านอื่น ๆ เช่น การเปรียบเทียบสัตว์เลี้ยงชนิดต่าง ๆ หรือการเปรียบเทียบวรรณกรรมต่าง ๆ ในช่วงเวลาเดียวกัน

*Comparison คือการเปรียบเทียบให้เห็นความเหมือนและความแตกต่าง (ให้ความรู้สึกว่าเราเป็นกลาง)
*Contrast คือการเปรียบเทียบให้เห็นแค่ความแตกต่าง และมักจะเปรียบเทียบสิ่ง A ว่าดีกว่าสิ่ง B อย่างไรโดยให้เห็นความแตกต่าง (ให้ความรู้สึกว่าเราลำเอียง)

เทคนิคที่ช่วยในการจำแนกว่าบทความที่อ่านเป็น Comparison and contrast essay หรือไม่ สามารถสังเกตได้จาก Signal words หรือคำเชื่อมประโยคได้ดังนี้

*คำต่าง ๆ ในภาษาอังกฤษแม้จะมีความหมายใกล้เคียงกันหรือเหมือนกัน แต่ไม่ได้แปลว่าใช้แทนกันได้เสมอไป เพราะอาจทำให้บริบท ไวยากรณ์ หรือความหมายเดิมผิดเพี้ยนไป วิธีที่จะใช้ให้ถูกต้องจึงต้องหมั่นฝึกและเจอตัวอย่างการใช้คำต่าง ๆ ให้บ่อย ๆ
