(การอ่านเพื่อเอาข้อมูล รายละเอียด)

การอ่านประเภทนี้ เป็นการอ่านเพื่อหารายละเอียดปลีกย่อยของบทความ โดยสามารถใช้เทคนิคการอ่านแบบ Scanning หรือการอ่านแบบหาข้อมูลเฉพาะ เป็นรูปแบบการอ่านเร็ว ใช้เมื่อต้องการหาข้อมูลบางอย่างที่เฉพาะเจาะจง โดยมีขั้นตอนวิธีการคร่าว ๆ ดังนี้

อ่านคำถาม เพื่อหาคำหรือกลุ่มคำสำคัญ (key word or phrases) สำหรับกลับไปอ่านค้นหาในข้อความ ทั้งนี้ ในข้อสอบที่ยาก คำหรือกลุ่มคำสำคัญอาจใช้คำที่มีความหมายเหมือนกัน แต่เป็นคนละคำ
อ่านเนื้อเรื่องโดยกวาดสายตาอย่างรวดเร็วทีละ 2-3 บรรทัด เพื่อค้นหาคำหรือกลุ่มคำสำคัญดังกล่าว
เมื่อพบคำหรือกลุ่มคำสำคัญที่บอกเกี่ยวกับคำตอบที่ต้องการ ให้อ่านช้าลง และอ่านด้วยความรอบคอบระมัดระวัง
สำหรับข้อสอบแบบเลือกตอบ สามารถกำจัดคำตอบที่ผิดออก และเลือกคำตอบที่ดีที่สุดที่เหลืออยู่ได้

โดยสรุป การอ่านประเภทนี้ จำเป็นต้องมีความละเอียดรอบคอบ สิ่งสำคัญอย่างหนึ่งคือ น้อง ๆ ควรมีคลังคำศัพท์ในสมองมากพอสมควร การหมั่นท่องจำคำศัพท์ใหม่ ๆ หรือฝึกอ่านเพื่อคาดเดาความหมายศัพท์จากบริบท จะช่วยให้ประสบความสำเร็จในการสอบประเภทนี้

On Tuesday, August 30, Mr.Blank a prominent local citizen, arrived home from work to find his apartment had been robbed.
